::MORE NOTES::

8/22/04

We were just back from vacation, when we were off to Waredaca! We took a large group to this event and everyone did well! I rode Matchbox in the OT to a 5th place tie, and after his fine performance he will move up to Prelim next weekend. Kerri rode Juliet in the Training and had a great dressage test and a clean xc- they will be moving up to Prelim next weekend (a first for her and the horse!). Be sure to check out this horse on our for sale page - she really is a great 5 year old! Liz rode Manhattan around the Prelim and clocked in with only one second over the time to finish 9th - a couple unlucky rails prevented them from being 3rd, but we were all pleased as it was his first run since May! Not at all rusty! Laura rode JR through a clean sj and xc in their first Training - they had a blast!

Some of our other students rode here as well. Rebecca and Bourbon Street did excellent in the ON ( despite the fact that Rebecca had a severely sprained ankle). Chrissy and AllyOpp were 6th in the ON with great sj and xc - they are going Training soon! Both Katy and Shannon rode in the Training - but hadn't finished when we left for home - but we are sure they did great! Carol also had good rounds in the Training with Gobi! It was a very successful weekend for WEF all around!

We also got to see several former WEF horses compete - Killian and Robin Sizemore did well in Training. Legend and Marley Stone were entered in Prelim; Buck Davidson and Miles were also entered in Prelim but an unfortunate face injury with a bridle rack forced them to withdraw! Sharon White and Merlin did the Training and Jenina Seagle and Southern Sage were excellent around the Novice courses! It is so much fun to see our former horses out and doing well with their new owners!
Other good news - Amy is officially released from crutches and allowed to ride (nevermind the fact that she has been walking for a month and riding for almost that long)!

We have several events coming up - almost every weekend until the end of November - so check back to see how they go!

8/8/04

We took a big group to Olney Farm HT today and came home with a bunch of ribbons! I rode Matchbox, Aurora, and Monarch. Aurora and Monarch were 5th and 6th in Open Novice - both went great! Matchbox did a nice test that put him in the ribbons out of a large group of Open Training and went on to a nice sj and clean xc round. I am not sure were he ended up as we left before they posted the final scores.

Chrissy Scudiero and Alley Oop were 5th in Novice. This pair will be going Training level soon! Chrissy Davidson and Casey Jones were 3rd in BN and will be moving up to Novice soon too! New working student, Shannon, was in the ribbons as well with her horse, Dip of Diamonds, in the Training Rider division. Boarder Debra Cohen and Gran Sierra were 3rd (there was a three way tie for first, but others were closer to optimum time!) in the Novice as well. We also saw former WEF horse, Encore out at his first BN event with Kerry Blackmer. The pair finished 5th. Congrats to all!

Two weekends ago we went to the inaugural Surefire Farm HT - what a great event this is! I rode the same three there - Matchbox, Aurora, and Monarch. I was 3rd in Training with Matchbox (tied for 2nd, but other person was closer to opt time!) and was also in the ribbons with Aurora! Kerri Long took Juliet there and finished 8th in the JYOT. Laura Borger and her Sassy JR were 5th in the Novice. This pair will be moving up to Training at their next outing.

I leave tomorrow for vacation - if anyone needs anything - call the barn and ask! The working students are more than happy to answer any questions or show horses for sale in my absence. I will be back August 17th - just in time to jump right into fall event season with Waredaca HT!

Exciting news! I just found out I passed my ICP certification for Level II for the USEA! There are about 20 people in the USA and only one other person in the state of Maryland that have passed this test! The ICP program has instructors certified for levels 1-4. Level 1 is BN to T and level 4 is advanced CCI***/****. Quite a wide range! This is a great new program for the USEA - to learn more about it see the USEA website.

Last weekend two students went to the MCTA starter event at Roseryville State Park. Jeannie Borger rode Hot Topic and had a great go! They left before the final placings (everyone had been at the barn since 3am!) but we are sure she finished great! Kerri Long rode Beez in my Bonnet (owned by Amy's mom, Barbara Knapp) to first place in the BNH division. She won the dressage and finished on that score. Congrats to all!!

We have Surefire Farm event and Olney Event coming up soon! Check back to see how those go!

Also congrats to Joanne McAfee on the purchase of Scarlett and St. Timothy's school on the purchase of Jack. Best of luck to all!

7/4/04

Happy 4th!!!  We are taking a lazy day today here at WEF (and the working students are loving this as it only happens a couple times a year!!!)  We took a big group to Waredaca yesterday and everyone did well! I rode Monarch and Aurora in the Novice and they finished 3rd and 6th respectively. I was very pleased with their performances!

Katie rode Casablanca in her first event and did super!  Jeannie Borger rode her horse, Hot Topic, (who Nina has been competing for her) and had a blast! New boarder and part-time working student, Shannon, also rode her horse in the Training and completed in fine form. This is a talented pair that will be fun to help bring along!! Rebecca rode Bourbon Street in their first outing in the Training level and had a blast! Mandie had a great go in SJ and XC with Gabe! Ship in student Jamie and her horse Mercy had a successful move up to Novice, and finished 3rd!

Sara also took my former Advanced horse High-Tech around the BN. Sara added an interesting  addition to her xc course by accidentally jumping a OI fence - and a BIG OI FENCE at that!! OOPS!! Luckily, she stayed on, looped back around and jumped her BN fence! I saw it all and "Leggs" thought it was great! He might be 19, but certainly doesn't act it. I think he thought "finally, a real jump!"

On a more serious note, Katie (who is in the national guard) is getting deployed August 1 and former working student Christine leaves for the Army mid July. We wish both these girls the best and hope for their safe return soon!!!

We have a few events planned this summer and then will be ready to go again for fall!!

6/28/04

We went to Seneca Valley HT the weekend of June 19-20th. On Saturday they ran the un-recognized divisions - Jessie Poole had a great go on Ravens Wood, as did Kirsten Zabicki on Mr. Patches, Nina Klimov on Hot Topic and Sierra Lindsey with Sir Starry Knight, who ended up second in their division! Sunday was the Novice and Training and we had several horses running this day as well.  I rode the talented Aurora in Novice over a very challenging xc course.  She was double clear in both cross country and show jumping! She a bit of a challenging dressage test, as the Training level cross country ran within 50 feet of  her dressage ring! She did her best though, and was quite good for her age and amount of training! I am very pleased with her progress - she has a talented future ahead of her! (See her on the for sale page.)

Matchbox and I did the Training in fine form with a foot perfect cross country (except for a minor trip out of the bank of the water complex) and once again had an excellent dressage score and a faultless showjump round. Kerri and Juliet were 7th in the YROT - another great dressage and faultless xc, but an unfortunate rail in SJ dropped them several places! Juliet is a 5 year old who is coming along great and will do Prelim this fall!  (See them on the for sale page.)

Some WEF students also competed; Katie Gates and Gizmo, some new ship in students, did very well in the Training! Debra and Grand Sierra did well in the Novice, winning their dressage test and finishing 7th. Chrissy and Ally Oop finished 2nd on their dressage score of 32! We have great plans for this pair - Training come fall for sure! Carol and Gobi were also 2nd in their Training division! Another noteworthy performance - Sharon White and former WEF horse Pancho's Pisterolo (formally Merlin) were in the ribbons as well in the Training!  Congrats to all!

This week we have had 3 new additions to the horses for sale! Great prospects off the track - a 5 year old 16.2 hand gray gelding, a 5 year old  16.1 hand gray gelding, and a 4 year old 16.2 hand chestnut gelding. All amazing movers with great conformation and attitudes!!! Check them out soon on our horses for sale page!

I moved Sirius and Jerry to Phyllis Dawson's this week. Jerry will live there for a while to grow up with other foals. I have rebred Siri to Salute the Truth, and Liz has also bred her mare Yonder to this stallion. We are anxiously awaiting news of them being "in foal"! This talented stallion is competing Advanced and should be a great cross with both mares!

I will be at ICP workshop riding for the candidates Tuesday thru Thursday in the mornings next week at Stonehall Farm, but will home on those nights, so contact the barn or me if you need anything. Thanks!!

PS - BIG THANKS to the Harley Davidson riders who fixed our blown out (shredded ....) tire on the way back from Ohio. They saved us - and had Amy and me back on our way in 1/2 an hour!!

6/18/04

Rain and more rain! seems more like last spring again! We went to Waredaca HT June 5-6 and were able to run on Saturday in the Training and BN. I had a good go in the muck with Matchbox as did Kerri and Juliet. Working student Katie Hagerty was also 6th with Laura Borger's Sassy JR in the Training. Laura has been away to college this past semester and Katie kept her horse going and fit for her! Laura is now home and will be taking over the ride.  Liz won BNH with Ravens Wood - his second in a row! I found out that he and I ended up winning BNH at Full Moon instead of placing second! Want a talented prospect he is! Check him out on the for sale page!

Sunday was a different story - continued rain and the chopped up footing convinced us to withdraw.  Liz had entered Manhattan in Prelim and did dressage and sj only and were in good form. I had Aurora and Monarch in the Novice. But we felt that the footing wasn't good enough to have these talented youngsters try a hard Novice course without studs! (and even without shoes in Monarch's case!) Both of my rides did great dressage tests to be in the low 30's though! One of my ship in students, Chrissy, and her horse, Ally Oop, did compete in the Novice that day and were 4th - congrats to them!!

Next week was Menfelt and downpours again! Most people were pulled into their parking spots by the tractor, which should have been a hint to stay in bed that morning! Liz again did dressage and sj with Manhattan and then we decided to call it quits! It was just way too wet, and there were lots of problems despite several fences being removed from the course. The next day we came back for Novice and Training thinking it would have had some time to dry up a bit, but it rained once again so we all just did dressage and went home!  This weekend we are going to Seneca Valley PCHT and hoping for good weather - so far so good!

On Monday I am leaving for the ICP.  I  will be back Thursday just to leave again Saturday to go to Ohio to pick up a new horse we got through our Illinois contacts. Call the barn if anyone needs anything while I am away (410-552-5022)!

Also, special WEF congrats to our boarder Jen on her wedding June 12th! Best of luck for the future!! We had a great Bachlorette party for her several weeks ago at Cindee's house that was incredibly fun! Thanks for organizing it Cindee!!

 5/30/04

Two more weekends of eventing have passed and lots more ribbons have came in! Last weekend was Menfelt and everyone did super! We took a lot of kids and first timers to this great starter event as well as some of our own horses. Working student Sara did her first event ever on my retired Advanced horse, High-Tech, and finished 6th. Nina rode Hot Topic in Elementary in their first event together and finished 5th. Sierra rode her new horse, One Starry Knight, in their first event as a team and finished 9th in Elementary. Kirstin rode Mr. Patches in Elementary in her first event and this pair was 3rd! In BN we had 4 entries; Chrissy finished 2nd with Casey Jones, Mandie was 5th with Gabriel's Wings, Kerri was 6th with Beez in my Bonnet, and Kim was 7th with Don't Ask. I rode Aurora in the Novice to finish 4th. Debra was 4th as well in the Novice with Grand Sierra. Kerri rode Juliet in the Training to 7th place! A great day for everyone!

We also saw some of our old horses there competing with new owners. Cherry and Laura Parker won their BN and my former Intermediate horse Phinnian's Edge (who is now 17!) is teaching his second new owner Christine Douglas the ropes - they finished 3rd in Novice !

Today we were at Full Moon and had another great day! A big congrats to Mandie and Gabriel's Wings for winning their BNR division and to Sierra and One Starry Knight for winning their EYR division! Kirstin took Mr. Patches and was 5th in EYR too! Abby took her Friar Tuck BN and finished 4th and her sister, Rebecca, also took "Tucker" in ER to finish 3rd. Chrissy was 6th in BN with Casey Jones. I also rode BN on Ravens Wood and Monarch. Monarch was 3rd and Ravens Wood was 2nd. Both of these horses are for sale - so check them out! Sara rode High-Tech again in BBN to finish 3rd and Nina rode Hot Topic in BBN to finish 7th! Again - a great day for everyone!!

I will be away the next couple days to Stonehall Farm for the ICP workshop. Call the barn if anyone needs anything - my staff can take care of it!!

Three more weekends of eventing for this season so check back to see how it goes!!

 5/17/04

A lot has been going on the past several weeks! While I was away several students went to events and did great! May 1-2 was Difficult Run PCHT. Kerri competed Juliet in the Training to 5th place, Katie and JR were 6th in the Training, and Chrissy and her mare, Ally, had a successful start to Novice there as well.

On May 8th, both Katie and Kerri took their horses to Elysian Hills and ran in the Training. Katie and JR were 6th while Kerri and Juliet finished 3rd. Juliet is one of our horses for sale and is doing wonderfully - placing in her first two Training level outings!!

This past weekend we took a big group to Rubicon HT. This event is beautiful with wonderful cross country courses that are big and technical! Last year I didn't get to compete there as the event was rained out. This year, I rode Toast of Manhattan to 10th in the OP. I haven't jumped or competed this horse in several years so I was very pleased with his performance! I also rode Matchbox in OT and finished 4th. Aurora went wonderfully again for me at BN and will be going Novice next time out! I started Monarch at his first event and he was 3rd in the BN. See the for sale page for more info on these horses. Rebecca rode Bourbon Street in the Novice and had double clean rounds in show jumping and cross country. Chrissy and Ally had another good go at Novice as well. Carol and Gobi were 7th in the Training and Jamie and Mercy were 4th in BN! Congrats to all!!

Several of our former horses have been out competing and doing well. Kerri Blackmer and Miles won MCTA Training and were 4th in the Training at Rubicon. They plan to go Prelim soon! Jenina Segale and Southern Sage are off to a good start with a great go at Difficult Run in the BN.

I also want to wish a quick recovery to our working student/assistant Amy Knapp! Amy had a freak accident and broke her pelvis a couple weeks ago. We all hope she is back in the saddle again soon! Also - on that note - we have a opening for a summer working student position if anyone is interested!!

We still have several shows coming up in the next month - check back to see how they went!

 4/26/04

We have had a couple of exciting weeks lately! First - I want to announce the arrival of Sirius' foal! He is a beautiful bay colt with a tiny star and 4 white socks! He is just wonderful!! Also, a couple of our horses have been sold - Encore and Shiraz. Encore has moved over to Spring Ridge Farm (where Miles and Emmie are stabled) and Shiraz is going to Pleasant Hollow Farm (where Legend lives). Best of luck with to their new owners!

We went to Redlands Hunt PC HT on April 17 - 18th. Everyone did very well! Kerri rode Caesar in the Training and they placed 6th. In their Novice divisions, Amy, riding Juliet, and Katie, riding JR, both got 6th place. Mandie Funk and Gabe were 7th in their first event together at Beginner Novice, as were Jamie and Mercy. Chrissy Davidson had a great round and would have gotten a ribbon except she forgot a cross country fence! Her mother, Kim, had a good start to her season as well on Don't Ask.  Rebecca and Bourbon Street also had a positive go in their first Novice event! I had a wonderful weekend, winning the Beginner Novice with Aurora with a score of 29.5! This was her first event and she was just wonderful! For more information on Juliet, Caesar, and Aurora, check out our for sale page!!

We also saw several former WEF horses competing at this event. Miles and Kerri won their Training division and have plans for Prelim soon! Mindy Maslin and Midnight Treasure (formally Midnight Special) were 3rd in Novice and will be moving up to Training at their next event! Sharon White and Pancho's Pisterlaro (formally Merlin) were 4th in their Training division. Sharon says she has great plans for this horse!! Congrats to all!

This past weekend we were at Loudoun Hunt PC HT. Liz rode Toast of Manhattan in the Prelim, as did Amy on her Charlie Can. Both pairs did great, with good clean cross country rounds! I rode the talented Matchbox in the Training and finished 5th. He went super! Another great horse to check out on the for sale page!!

I am going to be out of town April 30th to May 10th. Please call the barn for information while I am gone - (410) 552-5022. Otherwise, all emails and calls will be returned when I am back!

4/13/04

We have been so busy I haven't had a chance to update the website lately!! We have started event season! March 20-21 we went to Middletown HT where I rode Matchbox around the Training. He was super in dressage and had a great show jump and cross country run! I am very excited about eventing him this season! The following weekend Amy and Liz went to Morven Park HT and both ran around the Prelim in fine form! Liz and Toast Of Manhattan finished the event with a double clean show jump and only a few time penalties on cross country. Amy and her horse Charlie Can also ran clean and finished in 7th place in JYOP.

On April 4th, we attempted to go to Weave A Dream HT. The weather did not cooperate!! After both Kerri on Caesar and myself on Matchbox rode in dressage in pouring rain, sleet, and snow we decided to pack it in and call it a day! I had to use the biggest studs I own for dressage warm up and they were still almost falling down!! Matchbox did still finish 2nd with a 33 in dressage, out of a class of almost 30!! Not bad for those conditions!!

Last weekend I actually got a weekend off from eventing, but I spent it up at Plantation Fields helping out my friends and watching them run Intermediate and Advanced courses. It was a lot of fun - but of course made me wish I was riding!!

Other exciting news - I just bought a new young horse, Shining Star, from Phyllis. Shine is an unbroken 3 year old Irish Sport Horse by Phyllis' stallion, Brandenburg's Windstar. Windstar is half brother to my horse Sirius, as well as Phyllis' Starbright and Starbound. She will be a lot of fun to bring along in the next few years. Also - congrats to Sue Gibbs on the purchase of Magilla. This talented horse will do well for her!! Good luck to them!

Sirius is still holding out - so no baby yet! We are getting anxious though!  Check back in soon and see what else is happening!

Natalie

3/09/04

Spring is here - and so are the shows!! We went this past weekend to a jumper show at Garrison Forest and everyone did great! This show was a first for a bunch of students. Working student Sara did her first show on JR and got ribbons in the 2' division. Sara has only been jumping for a couple months as she only rode western before coming to work at WEF in January! Working student Katie also rode JR in the 3' division and did very well, picking up some ribbons also. Katie is taking JR to some events at Novice and Training and also doing her C3 Pony Club rating while owner, Laura Borger, is away at school in Florida until the summer.

Sierra rode her new horse, Sir Starry Knight (aka Starr) in their first show together and they were Reserve Champions in the 2' division! Kurstin rode in her first show as well, in the 2', division with Mr. Patches and got a couple of ribbons too! Mandie Funk rode her birthday present, Gabriel's Wings (formally William Tell, as seen on our website) in the 2' and 2'3" division, picking up lots of ribbons of their own! Mandie had just received Gabe the day before, for her 14th birthday. She had owned this horse for about 7 weeks and but didn't know it! Thanks to everyone at WEF for helping to keep this secret for the best birthday surprise!! Kim Davidson and daughter Chrissy both did great in the 2'3" and 2'9" divisions and came home with ribbons too! I rode Matchbox in a couple classes to help him prepare for upcoming events. In all - we had a great day - but a long one as we left the barn at 9:30am and returned at almost 9:00pm!!

Sirius is due soon! Her due date is March 25th and we are anxiously awaiting our newest arrival. One of our other horses, Magical Secret, had a big bay colt sat night. They are at a friends farm in Illinois and are doing great!

We start the event season in 2 weeks and we are all ready for it! Check back in to see how that goes!!

2/12/03

Just wanted to congratulate a couple of old WEF horses on their recent performances with their new owners! Kerri Blackmer and Miles (aka Flying High) went south this winter to train with Buck Davidson and did wonderfully! They placed in both their first two Training level events and are aimed for spring Prelims! Also - a big congrats to Peg Nara on her great season last year! The Boss ranked second nationally in the USEA 2003 Training level horse and Peg was second in the Training level master rider of the year!

I also want to wish Wendy Jones the best of luck with her new purchase from us, Red Velvet. This pair should have a great future ahead!

Natalie

1/28/04

Sorry it has been so long since I have given everyone an update! First it was vacation, then the holidays, and then the weather!! We have been dealing with lots of days with low temperature and piles of snow!! Plenty of frozen water buckets and snow shoveling to go around! We have two new working students - Sara and Katie - who have been doing a great job helping out and learning the routine here. We are lucky to have two people willing to start in January when the weather is like this, especially considering Sara is from Florida! She has quickly gotten over the idea of snow being "pretty"!! Both girls, along with my assistant, Amy, and other workers Jessie, Nina, Jeannie, Kerri and Lesley are keeping the farm running smoothly and helping to keep the horses in work for the spring season. A big THANK YOU to everyone!! Hopefully soon it will be spring and we will be back on a more normal schedule!! Riding and barn work are so much more fun when you aren't frozen solid!
I would like to congratulate Ashley Pawlish on the purchase on Hocus Pocus. These two should be a super match! "Magic" is a horse I competed at the Training level this fall. He is very talented and this pair will go far!

WEF sends best of luck to boarder Jessica Price and Big Bad Voodoo Magic on their competitions in Florida this coming month! We are all wishing we were there too and out of the snow and cold temps!! We also wish Christine the best in her travels in Europe this month! Christine is now visiting her sister in Germany. She was a working student here for the past 4 years. Best of luck to her in all her future endeavors!!

I am pleased to announce that Waters Edge Farm is starting a pony club! Anyone interested should contact Natalie (phone 410-552-5022 or email trainer@watersedgefarmllc.com).

Well, that is about all for now. We will be getting ready for the spring season with some schooling shows in February. I will keep everyone posted on the results!

Natalie

12/1/02

I would like to welcome Kate McAffee back to the barn! Eight year old Kate was in the hospital but is doing outstanding and is back riding within a week of having surgery for a heart condition. Everyone here at Waters Edge wishes her the best for a full recovery!

I am leaving for vacation in Rivera Maya, Mexico, on Friday December 5th and will return Sunday December 14th. I can't wait! I will return all emails and calls when I get back, although you can also call the barn (
410-552-5022) in my absence for information.

Until I return!

What a couple of exciting weeks! I was in Bulgaria November 6 - 13th with my good friend, Phyllis Dawson, shopping for horses.

Bulgaria was very beautiful and interesting and the hospitality of our hosts, event rider Ilian Iskarov, and our translator, Lilia Slavova, was incredible! We visited most of the country seeing several cities like Sophia, Russe, Varna, and Arbonassi; along with a lot of villages, country sides and old castles! We even saw the Black Sea! It was a wonderful vacation to a part of the world I have never seen! The horses we saw there reminded me a lot of the Irish type. A few things I was surprised at - great beer at 40 cents, paying to use the bathroom, wonderful dinner for 2 at a nice place for 20 dollars, and the outstanding quality of horses there! For a detailed account of our vacation/journey see www.teamwindchase.com and click on the Windchase News link for more information!

Once I returned home, I was busy getting ready for Full Moon Farm which was just 2 days later (and trying to adjust to an 8 hour time change). Full Moon went well, BeeDazzled and I were second in the Novice Horse division. She finished the event on her Dressage score of 33.5 - only out of first by 1 point! This awesome horse is for sale and will surely be snatched up by someone soon! She is ready to go Training and we have high hopes for her future. Thanks to my staff on keeping this horse well prepared while I was gone!!!

Some of my students went to Full Moon as well and each did a great job. Eight year old Chrissy Davidson was 4th with Casey Jones in BNR; her mother, Kim Davidson was 9th with Don't Ask in NR; working student Abigail Chapman was first in BBNH with Friar Tuck; Barbara Knapp was 4th in ER with Beez in My Bonnet and her daughter, Amy, was 4th in EH with Rhythm of the Winds and 7th in BNH with Red Velvet; Lesley Long was 6th (due to 1 rail that knocked her out of 3rd) with Rising Eagle in BNH. Congrats to all!

I would also like to extend a special congratulations to Karen Harris on purchasing Gliding Dragon from us. He is a wonderful horse and I'm looking forward to seeing them form a partnership!

Until next time!

Natalie!

11/1/03

Congrats to everyone on a great outing at Menfelt!

The working students of WEF did a great job!  Amy Knapp won BNYR with Red Velvet with a score of 26 and rode Rhythm of the Winds in her first event for owner, Sharon Jackson, to 5th place in EH. Kerri Long won TYR with Caesar with a score of 32.5. Kerri was also 3rd place in NYR with Kim Davidson's Don't Ask and 7th place with Kim Davidson's Rising Eagle in BNH. Caesar, Red Velvet and Rising Eagle are all for sale  - so check them out if you are looking for some nice event horses!

Our students also did super! Jamie Greer was first in BNH with Mercy and  Chrissy Davidson was 9th in BNYR with Casey Jones.  Rebecca Sherer and her recent WEF purchase, Bourbon Street, were 4th in BNR (I competed the horse through Prelim under the name of  Cruise Control). This was Rebecca's first event and we have her hooked on the sport now! Again congrats to all!

Congrats also to WEF student Carol Federighi for her win with the Novice ATC team at Virginia Horse Trials this past weekend. Carol scored a 32.5 in Dressage, and then rode clean through both cross country and show jumping as team anchor to help secure a win by 0.2 points (nothing like a little pressure!). What a great way to end the season!

Don't forget I will be in Europe November 6th - 13th and will return all calls and emails after that time! Thanks!

Natalie

10/27/03

We have had a busy couple of weeks! October 18th and 19th we competed at Waredaca HT. I ride Christine's Hocus Pocus to 7th place in a very competitive Open Training division. He was super! Alex Gilman rode Keltic Druid to 3rd place in her Training division. Liz rode Manhattan in the Open Preliminary and finished 6th and Amy had a good go on Charlie in OP as well. Kerri rode Caesar in the Novice and Laura rode her horse, JR, in Novice as well. Both did excellent with good cross country runs!   Congrats to all.
This past weekend we were at CDCTA horse trials. I was super busy riding 3 horses. I was 7th with Matchbox in OP, 7th with Hocus Pocus in OT, and 5th with BeeDazzled in ON. I was very happy with all the horses!

I am especially excited about BeeDazzled! This talented youngster was doing her first event and was super! She didn't put a foot wrong. She is for sale and will make someone a seriously nice horse!! Amy finished 8th with Charlie in OP and Alex had yet another good go with Keltic Druid! Again - congrats to all!

One other congrats to make - to Pedro and Secret Notion for completing the Pan Ams CCI*** at Fair Hill International  representing Mexico in fine form! What an accomplishment!

Next weekend we have a big group going to Menfelt. I am dressage judging so I won't see much, but good luck to everyone! Right after that Phyllis and I leave for Europe to go horse shopping! This will be an exciting trip! Check back to hear all about it!

Natalie

10/13/03

Olney Farm HT was another successful event weekend for our crew! We had several riders there. Sierra Lindsey and Lillian were once again in the ribbons in ER, finishing 6th. This pair will move up to BN next time. Amy Knapp rode 2 horses - Red Velvet was 5th in BNH and Charlie Can won his Prelim class!  Lesley Long and Rising Eagle were 6th in BNH. Kim Davidson and Don't Ask were 6th in NR. Amy, Lesley, and Kim were having there first go at a new level so all were very happy! I rode Christine's talented young horse, Hocus Pocus, to finish 5th in TH. Chrissy Davidson also competed JBN and would have finished 3rd except she jumped the wrong first cross country fence! They let her do the whole course and she was clean so we are counting it as a good go anyway! Congrats to all! Don't forget to check out Hocus Pocus, Red Velvet, and Rising Eagle on our for sale page!

Next weekend is Waredaca and we have several horses going Novice, Training, and Prelim. Wish us luck!

Natalie

10/5/03

We had a very successful outing at Menfelt this past weekend! I was judging Dressage in a different ring than my students competed in, so I didn't get to see anyone go - but they all did great! Kim Davidson won her BNH with Don't Ask, Chrissy Davidson was 3rd in BNYR with Casey Jones, Sierra Lindsey and Lillian were 4th in Elementary Young Rider. Two horses were at their first competition, and did very well in Elementary Horse - Rising Eagle and Lesley Long were 3rd, and Red Velvet and Amy Knapp got 6th place. Gobi had a successful move up to Training, with Carol Federighi riding him to a 5th placing! I also saw former WEF horse, The Mighty Quinn, and his owner Lisa win the NR division! Congrats to all!

This past weekend I went to 5 Points Horse Trials in North Carolina to help out my friend Pedro with his horses. I was was meant to show there myself, but when that fell through I agreed to ship his horses, groom for him, and help him out at the event. He rode Secret Notion in the Advanced division in his final outing for the Pan Am Games where he is representing Mexico at Fair Hill CCI***. He also rode Ebro and Iona Grey in the Preliminary. All three were outstanding and it was a fun weekend!! I also got to see a former WEF horse, The Boss, finish 3rd in Training with Peg Nara of Infinity Farm! This pair is rarely out of the ribbons!!

Several Waters Edge horses and students went to Middleburg HT for the local event. Liz rode Toast of Manhattan superbly to finish 6th in a competitive OP division! She also had a super go in Novice with Juliet in horribly deep mud! Kerri Long rode WEF's talented Caesar to finish in the ribbons in 7th in Novice in a field of 26! Carol Fererighi won her Novice division with her new youngster, Gobi. Laura Borger was 3rd with Sassy JR in the Novice as well!! CONGRATS to all!!

Next weekend we have a big group going to Menfelt while several friends compete at Morven CCI*. I am judging at Menfelt but will be rooting on my friends - Melissa, Katie, and Makendra - at the CCI*. Check back for our results!!

Another wet eventing weekend for 2003! We went to Seneca Valley HT today and got poured on! I rode Manhattan in the OP and Liz rode Matchbox in the Preliminary. Both horses only did dressage as the footing in show jumping and cross country was way too deep and wet. A flashback of the spring!! Both horses performed beautifully - especially in those conditions! I had to put in bigger studs for dressage than I ever use cross country!!!

Kerri rode Caesar in the Novice and did very well. Clean cross country and only 1 rail show jumping - again, very good for the horrible conditions! Since he was competing at a lower level, we went ahead and ran him in all three phases. I was to have a couple horses going tomorrow in the Training as well, but we have decided that scratching is a better choice! Just too deep and muddy to take the chance with nice horses. Hopefully we will have better luck next time!

We have next weekend off and then go the following weekend to 2 events. I am going, with my friend Pedro, to 5 points HT in North Carolina to help him as he runs Secret Notion in her final Advanced outing before the Pan Am Games this fall at Fair Hill.  We are also bringing along 2 talented Prelim horses. Liz, Kerri, and a couple other students are going locally to Middleburg HT that weekend. Check back to see how that goes! We are hoping for a better fall season weather wise than the spring!

We've had a couple busy weeks so I haven't had time to update my notes! Amy
and I rode at Loudoun HT a couple of weeks ago. Amy was pleased with her go with Charlie Can around a tough OP course! Congrats!

Last weekend was Menfelt HT and again both Amy and I competed. We both rode Liz's horses as she was out with a back injury. I rode the talented Matchbox around his first Prelim! He was super! He had a couple green moments, but boy  this horse has got potential! He even did outstanding on the flat, getting a 35 on test much more difficult than he is used to! Amy rode Toast of Manhattan in the OP as well. He was super and finished in the ribbons in 7th place! Manhattan did repeat one of his old tricks in the SJ warm-up by bucking Amy off twice! (He was quite the bucker when he was broke under saddle and occasionally decides to demonstrate how athletically he can buck!)  We were both laughing at him as he then went in and he pulled off a great SJ round!

My fall season is going to be less hectic than I planned. Ready to Rock is sidelined with a small injury - just bad timing! Big Bad Voodoo Magic is back with his owners. Cruise Control has just been sold - congrats to Rebecca Sherer on this purchase! He is staying here at WEF for lessons and training. It will be great to still have him around as this horse has always been one of my favorites.

This weekend is Seneca and a big group of us go out again! Check back to see how it goes!

We took a large group to Difficult Run Horse Trials this past weekend and had a blast. I rode 3 horses from BN to OP. Liz Hattenburg was sidelined with a broken wrist so I rode her horse, Eldon's Hero, and won our Novice division. I was very happy with this result as I had only ridden the horse 2 times! Cruise Control did his first Preliminary and proved he was up to the challenge! What a talented youngster this is!! Southern Sage completed his 2nd Novice in fine form proving that he is as nice a prospect as we'd hoped!

Several working students and students brought their horses as well. Christine Eigenbrode had great rides on Gliding Dragon in the OP and Hocus Pocus in the OT. Hocus Pocus finished 8th with a clean cross country and show jump in a large, competitive division! Amy Knapp rode her Charlie Can in the OP as well and had a super run! Lenore Oliphant completed her first OP with Bacall (a horse she bought from Waters Edge last summer) and had a foot perfect cross country go. Eight  year old Chrissy Davidson rode her 6 year old QH pony Casey Jones (another purchase from Waters Edge) in the BN and was 10th!! She was in the open division and had all adults in her class including her mom! Kim Davidson had a super cross country and show jump round on her horse, Don't Ask, but unfortunately forgot a cross country fence! Better luck next time!!

We also got to see several past Waters Edge Farm horses go around the Novice and Training courses with their new riders! Miles looked great in the Novice with Kerri Blackmere. Marley Stone has moved Legend up to Training and is doing super!! Peg Nara and The Boss continued their impressive outings with an overall score of 27 in the OT!! We love to see past Waters Edge horses out doing well!!

Next week its off to Loudoun Pony Club Horse Trials for Norman and Magic. Check back in and see how that goes!
