11/23/06
Happy Thanksgiving! We just wrapped up our show season this
past weekend and wanted to take a minute to let everyone know
how things ended! The weekend of Oct 18-22 I went and helped
my good friend Melissa at the Fair Hill CCI***. Both her horses
ran around with wonderful clean xc rounds! It was great to go
and help her out as I currently have a lot of young horses making
their way up the rankings so am not out there at the upper levels
myself!
The following weekend was Waredaca
HT on Oct 28-29. This event also ran a training level 3 day
which both Melissa and I were helping with. We taught people
how to prepare their horses for jog up and then I also walked
the SJ course with a group of riders. This is a great learning
experience for all the riders and it is a program I am happy
to help out with. WEF was represented by Dawn and Hidden Victory
at the 3 day and they had a great go to finish 9th. The 3 day
had 70 entries so this was an excellent turnout! Saturday was
to be the novice and intermediate day but heavy rains and winds
cancelled the event so Manhattan, Shine, Fancy, Tiger, and Shakedown
all got the day off. On Sunday I also rode Tilly to 8th place
in the regular training level division. She would have won,
but I had a couple time penalties opting to trot in a few places
that were really mucky from the rain! Had I known I was winning,
I would have went faster! Kerri and Juliet were 3rd in the JYOP
with another perfect round! This pair is totally ready to move
up next year!
November 5th was the Waredaca Starter
HT and once again WEF took many horses and we did great! Lauren
and TJ were 5th in the TH, Mara and Rose were 5th in the TR,
Robyn and Raven were 6th in the TR, Kelsey and Lucia were 3rd
in BNH, Amanda and Sully were 5th in BNH, Sierra and Starr were
4th in ER, and Dustin and Robbie won the ER! This was Mara and
Robyn's first time at the training level and was also Sully's
first event ever! Congrats to all!
Nov 11-12 was Rubicon HT. Saturday
was the N/P day. I had great go's with Fancy and Shine both!
I was very pleased with them! It was a great way to end the
season. Unfortunately once again the rains came down on Sunday
and the T/BN was cancelled! We have a lot of free xc schooling
this year to use up from cancelled events!!
November 19th was Full Moon Farm
and the last event of the season. WEF took a lot of horses and
once again everyone did great! Sierra and Starr won the BBN,
Mac and Cowboy were 4th in the BBN, Kirsten and Luna were 6th
in the ER, Kelsey and Lucia were 2nd in the BNH, Jessie and
Xtra were 2nd in the NR, Amanda and Sully were 4th in the BNH,
and Dustin and Robbie were 3rd in the BBN. This was their first
time at a new level for Dustin and Robbie! This was also Cowboy's
first event ever! Lori and Major also went in the ER and were
having a great go except slipped around a turn on the way to
the last XC fence.
Now that show season is over - I
am looking forward to my winter vacation! We go to Costa Rica
Dec 1-10 and I can't wait! During that time, please call the
barn with any questions at 410-552-5022. Any emails will be
answered upon my return! Hope everyone has a great holiday!

10/13/06
Hope everyone is having a good Friday the 13th!! Been a long
time since I have had time to update our notes here at WEF.
Lots has been going on! First on labor day weekend we went to
Loudoun Hunt PC HT. It was amazing this event even got to run
as it was rained out on Saturday and the organizers went to
great length to redo the schedule and put everything on Sunday.
It ended up to be really nice as the footing had enough time
to dry out and they also took off the fences that were not in
the best of footing. I took Tilly in the OT and she had a great
go, just outside of the ribbons due to some time faults. Liz
and Manhattan were 6th in the OP with an easy round. Kelsey
and Maddie had a good go around the JYOP with only a minor issue
due to missing a turn, Laura Borger and Sassy JR were 9th in
the JYOP as well.

 |
Kelsey Wilkens
and Madiera (Maddie) |
Lara Miller and Foxy
Cleopatra |
The following weekend was Seneca
Valley HT. I was out of town that weekend but WEF was well represented!
Shelly Millet and Piano Man were 4th in the BNR, Rebecca Sherrer
and Tarquin were 6th in the BNH, Lara Miller and Foxy Cleopatra
were 8th in the NR, Kerri Long and Juliet were 5th in the JYOP,
Amy Knapp was 7th and 8th in the ON with Felix and Tasmin Tiger,
and Lauren Hamilton and Tejuana had a great go around the OT.
Just goes to show that team WEF does great even if I am not
there!!!
Next up was Fair Hill on September
17th. Rebecca and Tarquin were 3rd in the BN here, Jessie Poole
and Piano Man were 6th in the NR, Mac Campbell and Mycroft were
3rd in the ON, Mara Seitel-Mellencamp and Rose were 9th in the
NR, Amy Knapp and Lucia were 6th in the BN, Kurstin Zabicki
and Lunar Eclipse were 9th in the EL, Dustin Dolaff and Robbie
were 2nd in the EL, and Lesley Long and Anarra were 4th in the
BBN. Another great weekend for team WEF!
Shelly Millet and Piano Man |
Then we all went to Marlborough HT
on September 23rd. I took Shine, Shakedown, and Tilly. Tilly
was 4th in the OT and my other two had good go's in the Novice.
Dawn Houck had a great go in the OT with Hidden Victory, and
Kelsey and Maddie had a good last run around the OP in prep
for her CCI* at Morven.
Sept 30-Oct 1 was Middleburg HT.
Kerri and Juliet were 2nd in the JYOP proving they are ready
for OI soon! Kerri also had a great go with her young horse,
Sparky, in the Novice. Amy had great go's with Tiger and Felix
as well.
This past weekend was the Morven
CCI* and Kelsey completed with her horse (well almost pony really!)
Maddie is a 14.3h Arab/Welsh/Morgan mix. WEF is very proud of
them!
We also said goodbye to Anarra as
she was recently sold to an eventer in New Mexico and also said
goodbye to Amy. Amy has moved on to being a manager at her own
barn and all of WEF wishes her good luck!

and Tilly |
We are "off " from competing
the next couple weekend but still plenty busy around the farm
keeping the competition horses going as well as starting some
new 2 and 3 year olds. We still have Waredaca, Waredaca starter,
Rubicon, and Full Moon starter to go too-so check back to see
how it all goes!
Other exciting news - WEF is about
to have a brand new barn built! It will be quite the showplace
and we can not wait!!
I will be out of town Oct 19-22 to help my friend Melissa at
the Fair Hill CCI*** with her two horses. Wish her luck and
talk to everyone when I return!
Natalie
8/22/06
The past two weekends I took a break from competing, but WEF
was still represented at FHI HT and Waredaca HT. August 12-13
were FHI HT. Dawn and Victory continued to do very well at the
Training level to finish 3rd! Lara and Foxy enjoyed a good move
up to Novice and were 6th! Amy and Felix also had a good go
around the Novice course! The next weekend on August 19-20 was
also a good one with Kelsey and Maddie having a super, clean
go around a challenging Prelim course and Dawn once again having
a great go with Victory at Training!
Amanda Hay and Redford - formerly
I'm so Red of WEF. This ex-Novice level
eventer has turned into a fabulous show jumper in Canada
and is making his
way up the ranks to Grand Prix! Congrats on all their
successes and best of luck
to them in the future!! |
This weekend is an "off"
weekend for the whole barn (except Amy who is taking her A rating
for Pony Club - all of WEF wishes her the best of luck!!) and
I am taking a trip to upstate NY for some fun before a busy
September event month arrives! Next month we have Loudoun HT,
Seneca HT, FHI HT, Marlborough HT, Plantation HT, and Middleburg
HT! Busy month ahead!!
Check back to see how it all goes!
Natalie
8/8/06
This past weekend we went to Olney Farm HT on Sunday and had
a great day! I won the OBN with Shakedown Street and was 3rd
with Rebecca Sherrer's horse Draft Dodger in the OBN. Lara Miller
and Foxy Cleopatra were 6th in the BNR and will be moving up
to novice next time out. Amy and Scottish Rose won their BN
division as well. Not bad for a 4 year old her second time off
the farm - especially considering that her first time off the
farm a month ago resulting in a 2nd place at Waredaca! Check
this horse out as she is for sale!
The weekend before we took a large group to Plantation Fields
starter event and everyone had a great time too. I rode Tilly
in the training were she finished 6th with a super clean xc
round over a very challenging course and was also great on the
flat to score a 36.5. Check this horse out for
sale too - she is amazing! I also rode Draft Dodger and
he went around the xc in fine form and was also excellent on
the flat to get a 31! Shakedown was supposed to go - but he
decided to pull both his shoes off in dressage warm up and no
farriers were there that day. Oh well!
Sarah took Matchbox and was 1st
in the novice and had a blast! This was great considering we
never even got the chance for her to ever xc school him before
competing him! Jessie and Piano Man were 7th in the novice also.
Micheal moved Bourbon Street up to BN and finished 10th with
a great go xc! In the elementary, we Had Dustin and Robbie,
Kirtsen and Luna, and Lori and Smooch. Everyone competing well
and had a lot of fun!
Megan and Aurora |
Unfortunately
for Shelly and Lauren, (who came to groom for me that
day!) they had a flat tire on the 6 horse trailer on the
way home and ended up stuck on the side of 95! Luckily
for all of us and the horses, Shelly's wonderful boyfriend
Jeff came to the rescue!! It was quite a long day for
them as we had gotten to the barn at 2 a.m. and they didn't
end up home till 9 p.m.!
The next few weekends I am
taking a break from competing while it's so hot, but WEF
will still be well represented at Fair Hill and Waredaca.
I am going to take some little mini weekend trips and
have some fun instead of sweating in the heat! I went
out every weekend last summer and trying to event in 100
degree weather is just too much!!
Also - wanted to say congrats
to Megan Hansen and Aurora on their fine run around Maryland
HT- this talented horse was bought from WEF and they have
moved up to Prelim and are doing super! And congrats to
Karen and Ciguapo (formerly Ravens Wood - another WEF
bought horse) on winning their Novice division with a
31.5 at Bucks County! Check back and see how everyone
does with the summer event season!

7/27/06
The past two weekends were the new event at Maryland Horse Trials
near Frederick. I decided to take these weekends off and have
a mini vacation in the heat, but WEF was well represented still!
The first weekend Kelsey and Laura went and did the Preliminary
and finished 2nd and 4th. Mara had a good go in the Novice -
despite learning the wrong dressage test and having to relearn
a new one really quickly! Dawn and Lauren moved up to Training
and both had good rounds! The second weekend Dawn went again
to the Training and finished 3rd! Congrats to all! Both Dawn
and Lauren are aiming to do the Training level 3 day this fall
if things go well and Kelsey is planning on entering Morven
CCI*.
While everyone was sweating in the heat at the events, I had
a great time canoeing with my husband, Shane, on the Rappahanock
River near Culpepper, VA. We lazily floated down the river for
about 6 hours with a little bit of rapids mixed in (only once
tipping our boat). We swam some and saw a bald eagle fly over
head as well as many blue herrons and other birds. It was a
lot of fun - and actually this Sunday we are going again - but
to a new area! We are taking a 14 mile canoe trip down the Shannondoah
river in West Virginia on Sunday. I am competing 3 horses on
Saturday and leaving here at 3 a.m. as well as taking 6 students!
I will be ready for the relaxation!
We are off to Plantation Fields in Unionville this Saturday
for their starter event and then next Sunday we have horses
going to Olney too. Check back and see how it all goes!
Natalie
7/10/06
This past weekend was the Fair Hill starter HT. We once again
took a big group and everyone had a great time! I took Shine
and Shakedown. Shine was wonderful around an extremely challenging
xc course to finish 6th. Shakedown was great as well with just
a green look at the water in the BN. I was very pleased with
him!
Other WEF students did well too - Kerri and Sparky were 5th in the Novice, Amy and Felix were 7th in the Novice at their debut at this level, Robyn and Raven were 3rd in BN, Rebecca and Tarquin were 3rd in BN, Shelly and Xtra were 7th in BN, Lori and Major were 4th in EL, Michael and Bourbon were 1st in BBN, and Chrissy and Gryffin got around the BBN for their first outing ever! We are proud of everyone!!!
Heading out for cross country schooling. |
This weekend I am taking "off", but several WEF students are checking out the new Maryland Horse Trials - check back to see how things go!!
Natalie
P.S. Check out our Wednesday night jumper show on July 26th! Email me for more info - poles to 3 foot 6!
7/02/06
Waredaca starter was yesterday and we took a large group of 13 horses to this fine event! I rode Tilly and Shine in their first Training level outing as well as riding Tasmin Tiger in his first Novice outing. All three performed well with Tilly ending up 2nd in TH and Tiger ended up 4th in NH. Shine had a couple green moments xc, but still did a great job around a challenging course that used a lot of the recognized fences. It was not the easy move up we had envisioned as it used their bank up, one stride to a down bank with a quick turn to a big angled 4 stride brush line, as well as a half coffin, a log on a mound, and a drop into the water followed by a jump out! The sj for Training used wavy planks over a large liverpool that caused many a look. The Novice was big and challenging as well for xc and also had a skinny in the sj ring. I was very happy with all my horses!
Many WEF students also had great rounds! Lauren and Tejuana were 4th in TH in their Training level debut. Jen and Miette had a fall when the bank down surprised her horse and resulted in a stop, but both quickly got back together to finish the course in fine form! Amy and Honor made an excellent debut at the Training level (this awesome horse is for sale! check him out quick before the price goes up!) finishing just outside of the ribbons in 9th and scoring a 36 in dressage! Amy also rode WEF' Lucia around BN in fine form and was 2nd in the BNH on her own Scottish Rose in her eventing debut. Both of these horses are for sale as well - check them out!
Jessie Poole and Piano Man
|
Jessie Poole won BNR with her and Shelly Millet's Piano Man! This is the first time Jessie has competed in over a year! Kirsten Zabicki, Rebecca Redman, and Dustin Dolaff all did fine jobs riding around the Elementary courses with Luna, Major, and Robbie. Kerri Long had a great go in the Novice with her own, Mr. Sparky, as well.
Today Rebecca Sherrer is representing WEF at Surefire HT while the rest of us take a break and have a more relaxing day! We were at the barn at 3:30 a.m. to bathe horses and get ready to leave by 5 a.m. Saturday (of course, 2 are grey so no preparing the day before!) Big thanks to Shelly, Lara, Laura, Lori, and Barb (Amy's mom) for helping to groom! Also - big thanks To Shelly's boyfriend Jeffro for putting the wonderful new awning on the trailer that we enjoyed so much Saturday! We parked the 4 horse and 6 horse to have room in between to set out the awning and the shade was very enjoyable! It will get much use!!

Laura Borger and Sassy JR |
More exciting news! This past week we had an ICP testing here at the farm. The ICP is the Instructors Certification Program that is sponsored by the United States Eventing Association. I had taken my level 2 (certified thru teaching Prelim level and CCI*) a couple years ago. Liz, Amy, and Lesley took the level 1 workshop here last summer. With this testing, I last minute decided to test and fill an opening we had. I tested for level 3 and passed!! I am now certified to teach thru the Intermediate and CCI** level - which only around 12 people in the USA are certified to do! Liz took and passed her level 1 training certification pending the rest of the paperwork. This is a big accomplishment for us both! Big thanks to all WEF riders and other outside riders that helped this testing go on. Lesley and Amy are planning to take their Level 1 testings in the fall.
Next week we go to Fair Hill for a starter up there. Should be a lot of fun! Check back to see how it goes!

6/19/06
Been a busy few weeks! Sorry I have not had time to update our notes - been too busy grooming, riding, teaching, and competing!
The first weekend of June, Kerri and I went to Jersyy Fresh CCI*** to help out our good friends Melissa Hunsberger and Jane Sleeper. Melissa had her horse, Just Fun Stuff, and Jane had her horse, UN, in the competition and Buck Davidson was riding Jane's other horse, New Moon. Jane's groom had broken her wrist the week before, so I got Kerri to come and help me out grooming for the 3 horses. Melissa had an excellent weekend - just incurring a run out on a challenging cross country course in deep footing. Buck ended up 6th with "Morris" (aka New Moon) - a great outing, especially as a catch ride!! Jane decided to withdraw UN before cross country since the footing was so deep and horrible. UN was quite mad at us for all the attention Fun and Morris were getting while she hung out in her stall. It was a great week and we were both happy to help out!
While we were any, several WEF students and horses went to the local Waredaca HT and did great! Amy rode Mara's horse, Knight's Ebony Rose, in the Training and had a great go. Amy also rode her own, Felix the Cat, in the BN to finish in 2nd place as well as placing 6th with a WEF sale horse, Honor, in the Novice. Her student Emily was 4th in the BN with Liz' horse Blue Yonder. Mac was 6th in the Novice with another of Liz' horses, Mycroft. Dawn rode Victory in the YEH 5 year old class to 8th place and had a good go in the Novice. Lauren was 3rd with Tejuana in the 5 year old YEH class and 4th in the Novice as well. Our wonderful groom, Shelly, finished 8th in the BN with Piano Man, who she co-owns with Jessie Poole. Kelsey was 4th with Maddie in the JYOP. Also - a former WEF horse, Art Scene (aka Jasper) was 6th in the Novice with his new owner, Piper Shephard, and Aurora and Megan Hansen had a great go around the Prelim!
 |
 |
Natalie and Tasmin Tiger, who is being offered for sale. |
The following weekend we took a big group to Rubicon. This is such a lovely event with nice, big galloping courses! Liz and Manhattan were 4th in the OP! Kerri and Juliet had a great go as well to finish just outside of the ribbons. This is an exceptional horse being offered for sale, if anyone is looking!! Laura was 6th in the Training with Sassy JR - a great prep to move up the following weekend to Prelim! In the Novice, I rode both Shine and Tilly - who preformed well over a challenging course! We also had Lauren and Tejuana finishing 3rd, Jen and Meitte having a good go, Kerri and Sparky having a good go, Dawn and Victory with a good run, and Amy and Honor finishing 7th. Honor will move up to training the next time out. Another great horse for sale!! In the BN, I rode Shakedown and Tiger. Tiger was 5th with a great go! Shakedown figured it out and is one to watch for the future! Amy rode her horse, Felix, around the BN in fine form and will be moving him up to Novice next time out. Rebecca was 3rd in BN with her Airborne Assault and rode her new horse, Draft Dodger, around the BN in fine form. Other former WEF horses did well too - Kerry Blackmer and Encore in the Training, Sharon White and Pancho's Pisteralo in the Prelim, Phinnian's Edge and Christine Douglas in the Novice, and True Blue Donderoo and Paula Siegel in the Novice.

Christine with Phinnian's Edge |
Megan and Aurora |
This past weekend we braved the heat and went to Seneca Valley HT. I rode 4 horses saturday. Big Thanks to Shelly, Lara, and Lori for grooming! Tilly was 6th and Shine was 8th in the Novice. Shakedown was excellent to score a 31 in dressage with Tiger scoring a 33 in BN. Both also had great, clean xc goes! Tiger ended up 5th and Shakedown had a couple rails to drop out of the ribbons - but I was so proud of him as he really "got it" this time out! He knows his job and is so much fun!!

Dawn and Victory |

Rebecca and Airborne |
Liz had a great clear go around cross country with Manhattan in the Prelim, an unfortunate rail knocked them out of the ribbons. Kerri and Juliet finished 8th in a very competitive OP division (no JYOP here!) with double clear jumping rounds! Kelsey and Maddie had a great go with 1 railin show jumping, which dropped them out of the ribbons. Laura and JR had a great move up to Prelim with a good dressage test, a great show jump round, and a 90% excellent cross country course. An unfortunate stumble on landing from the corner toppled Laura off, but she got back on and finished in fine form!
Mac and Mycroft had an unexpected parting of company as well, but he too got back on and finished well! Lauren with Tejuanna and Dawn with Victory had good goes around the Novice. Mara and Rose were 6th in the Novice too! Former WEF horse Aurora and Megan Hansen once again had a good go at Prelim!

Natalie and Shine
|

Natalie and Shakedown
|
All in all - a busy few weeks but great results! This next weekend we are "off" while preparing for the ICP testing here June 27-29th. Then we are back at it again with lots of horses moving up at Waredaca HT July 1.
Natalie
5/28/06
WEF has had a busy 2 weeks! Last weekend we made the trip down the Virginia HT with a smaller group (for us!) of horses. Working students Catie and her horse Sea Pirate were 4th in the ON, Kesley and Maderia were 6th in the JYOP, and Kerri and Juliet were 6th in the JYOP. I rode Tilly and Shine in the Novice as well and both performed quite well. This was their first "overnight" trip and being in all the time did affect their dressage so it was not quite up to par with where it should be. Both horses jumped incredibly in the indoor arena and both had clean xc rounds. Shine's xc round did have a little detour though on the way to the last fence. She spooked at something and dumped me on my feet! Since it was not related to a fence, it did not count for points for a stop or fall - just time penalties. It was quite funny though and I was laughing about it (as were others!!). Unfortunately, the time faults dropped us out of the ribbons!

Kirsten Zabicki and Lunar Eclipse |

Jen Coniglio and Miette
|
Today we took 19 horses to Full Moon Farm starter horse trial. I rode Shakedown Street in his first BN event - he was green, but still performed well, scoring a 34 in dressage! This is one to watch for the future for sure! Tiger and I continued his successful eventing career with a 2nd place in the BNH also scoring a 34 in dressage. I also rode Rebecca Sherrer's horse Tarquin and was 1st in the BBNH with a 31.5!
Assistant trainer Amy and Felix won their BNH with a 32. Kerri rode Sparky to 2nd and Rebecca's horse Airborne to 3rd in the ON. Mara and Rose were 2nd in the ON, Jen and Meitte were 3rd in the ON, and Catie and Sea Pirate were 8th in the ON. Melissa rode Lucy around the BBNH as well and had a great go! We didn't see were she placed as we were anxious to get out of there after a long, hot day!

Emily Milchling and Blue Yonder |

Shelly Milet and Piano Man |
Mac and Mycroft (a WEF horse he is half-leasing from Liz) were 1st in their first event together in NR. Emily and Yonder (another WEF horse that was once Liz's Prelim eventer) were 2nd in the BNR. Liz rode Minet's horse Tigger in his first BN event - like Shakedown, he was a bit green, but shows lots of promise for the future!
Michael and Bourbon Street were 2nd in the EL - quite a feat as this horse was deemed not even pasture sound a year ago! Its great to see this talented horse back out doing what he loves! He was a horse I rode thru Prelim level and then Rebecca bought him and had a lot of success thru training level before a pasture injury interrupted his career. Michael and Rebecca have brought him back slowly and he is doing things the vets never thought he would do! Sierra and Starr had a great dressage test to score a 32.5 only to have the horse come up lame in xc warmup - hopefully just a bruise! This same issue prevented both Lara with Foxy and Lori with Chance from being able to compete this weekend!

Michael Price and Bourbon St. |

Mara Seitel-Melencamp and Rose
|
We also had some other young riders in the EL. Kirsten and Luna had a great event despite some looks at the water jump! Ashley and Major as well as Dustin and Robbie made their eventing debuts and had a lot of fun out there!
All in all - a successful weekend! I leave Tuesday to help out my friends Jane Sleeper and Melissa Hunsberger at the Jersey Fresh CCI*** next week - this should be a lot of fun and I am looking forward to it! If anyone needs anything during that time - call my cell at 410-615-3673 or the barn at 410-552-5022. I will be back late Sunday June 4th and then get ready for Rubicon, Seneca, and the ICP testing we are holding here at the farm!
Natalie
5/08/06
We had a busy weekend this week with MCTA Horse Trials. Friday kicked off the weekend with the YEH classes for the 4 and 5 year olds. I rode Hidden Victory (Dawn gets her cast off Tuesday!), Shining Star, and Hot Chilli Tilly in the 5 year old division. Lauren also brought Tejuana for the 5 year old class as well. All the horses performed wonderfully and Victory ended up finishing 4th out of a large field of fancy youngsters! It was a lot of fun, despite the fact that we had to get to the barn at 3:30 a.m. to get the horses all ready! Big thanks to Lesley for coming out at that ridiculous time of the morning to help me get the horses ready, and coming to groom for me Friday as well!

Kerry and Sparky |

Laura and Sassy JR |
Saturday started at 3 a.m. for us as I had 4 Novice horses, Liz had Manhattan in the Prelim, Kerri had Juliet in the Prelim and Sparky in the Novice, Amy K. had Honor in the Novice, Catie had Pirate in the Novice, Amy M. had Puck in the Novice, Rebecca had Aire in the Novice, and Kelsey had Maddie in the Prelim. All of my horses performed very well. I rode Shine, Tilly, Quin, and Victory in a challenging novice course and ended up finishing 2nd with Quin, out of a large group of Novice horses, with a score of 32. Quin and I also won the MCTA trophy for the lowest score MCTA member at Novice level - quite an honor! Quin is now being offered for sale - check her out if you are interested in a solid Novice horse with a lot of potential!

Amy and Honor |

Gizmo |
The working students also did quite well to finish 8th for Catie and Pirate, 7th for Amy and Honor, and 3rd for Amy and Puck. Big thanks to Shelly for grooming for all these horses with help from Lesley, Lori, and Lauren! We could not have kept this crazy schedule going without a lot of help!
The Prelim horses only did dressage and sj on Saturday so we were back early sun for xc and also for the Training level horses. Luckily on Sunday, we got to sleep in till 4:30 a.m.! Manhattan performed well over this challenging course as did Maddie and Juliet. Kelsey and Maddie were 6th in JYOP and Kerri and Juliet were 8th in JYOP. Laura Borger and Sassy JR had a great go around the training level, only to skip a fence xc! Oh well - better luck next time! Congrats to all!

Amy and Puck |

Natalie and Shine |
We also saw this weekend a bunch of former WEF horses out running around and doing well - almost all were in the ribbons! Congrats to Sharon White and Pancho's Pisteralo in the OP, Kerry Blackmer and Encore in the OT, Rachel Snyder and Eric's Charmer in the OT, and Robyn Sizemore and Killians Red in the OT. Also congrats to Cassidy Tonner and Forte (another former horse as well as a student!) on moving up to Prelim at Difficult Run HT and placing in the ribbons there!
I was so busy preparing for MCTA that I never got the chance to do a write up for Loudoun HT from the weekend before. This was also a great event and everyone did well. I rode student Katy Gates talented horse, Gizmo, around the Training for a clear sj and xc round to finish 10th. I had only ridden him twice, so did not have his buttons all sorted out on the flat - but still, he was excellent and a lot of fun to ride! Thanks for the ride Katy - I will do it anytime! Liz and Manhattan made their spring debut at Prelim and got the ball rolling for a good spring season. Amy took Rose to her first outing at Training level and was 6th! This mare was excellent and has a bright future ahead! Kerri rode Juliet for her first outing of the year at Training and finished 8th - they were just getting one run in before moving back up to Prelim next time out at MCTA. Again - a good weekend!

Liz and Manhattan |

Catie and Pirate |
We are taking the weekend "off" from eventing next weekend, but Amy and I are driving back to Illinois to pick up four 2 year olds and 3 yearlings from my friend Virginia's house. These are homebreds of her stallion and some will be for sale. Virginia has produced such nice horses like High-Tech, Ready to Rock, Lt. Benz, and Hot Chilly Tilly - so I am very excited to get these horses and start working with them! We also have the new arrival from Canada of some draft/tb cross fillies that Liz bought. Anyone interested in a youngster should contact WEF as we have some nice ones!!
Also - I might unexpectantly have a summer working student opening as well as one for fall. Contact me for more info about our program, or see our working student page for more information!
